An Amazing Device that is Still Developing
Pros: Good battery life, great internet resource, great user interface, still developing software.
Cons: No to do lists, no media SMS messages, EDGE network can be slow Full review You know how sometimes a new product comes around, and you start getting drawn into the hype and the marketing, and feel yourself pulled in? And you know how sometimes when you finally get suckered into buying the product, it just doesn't really match up? For me, this is not one of those times! The apple iPhone is one of the most hyped and marketed products of the last decade, so it's easy to imagine that the device wouldn't be able to live up to the expectations created for it. Nonetheless, I've been extremely satisfied by my experience with the iphone. I've had the phone for about six months, and for the sake of full disclosure I am an Apple computer user who is pretty active about trying to learn about the phone. One of the reasons I bought the phone was that it worked much more seamlessly with my Macbook than did my windows mobile based smartphone that I had before. There are three great functions of the iPhone that I really appreciate. First of all, I really love the way the touchscreen interface works with internet browsing. It makes browsing much more intuitive and full than other mobile internet options, and I'm pretty sure it'll have an impact on the way people think about web design and how the internet can be used by a mobile population. Secondly, I love the way that the text messaging function works on the phone, sort of like an instant message kind of chat interface. that way I can see the text in the context of the conversation. It's a little thing, but it just works great. I wish that the phone offered the ability to send media SMS messages, and hope that that is something that comes in the near future with software updates. This is just an overall comment, but the phone's interface is extremely intuitive and makes everything easy. Most of the time, the phone just works like you think it should, and figuring out how to find different things is so easy compared to every other phone I've ever seen or used. Play with one of these things or a couple of minutes and it just makes sense. Stuff is where it should be on this phone, and again, I'm sure that will have an impact o the industry. The phone also tends to get excellent battery life, and good reception. the ipod functions work just like you'd expect them too, but since I don't listen to music much unless I'm traveling, this isn't that big of a deal to me. The biggest thing that drives me nuts about the phone is it's lack of a feature for creating to do lists, although I have to believe that will be corrected in the upcoming software release in June. There are other minor irritations, such as the inability to use smart lists, but overall I have been very pleased with the phone. the price can be a little steep, but for those who are willing to spend that much on a smartphone, I think Apple's iPhone is a great way to go. |
